Understand Microsoft consent prompts for Outlook integration

Summary

Learn how Microsoft consent prompts affect the Outlook integration and why you may see a "Your admin has been notified" message. Understand the role of Microsoft Entra ID permissions and what information to provide when contacting Support.

This article covers:

Why you may see a Microsoft consent prompt

We've applied updates to reduce unnecessary Microsoft consent prompts. However, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) enforces its own permission and security policies.

If your organisation restricts users from approving high-privilege permissions, Microsoft requires approval from a Microsoft 365 or Azure administrator before Outlook can be connected.

When this occurs, you may see a consent prompt and a message such as "Your admin has been notified".

This behaviour is controlled by Microsoft and cannot be suppressed from within Box+Dice.

Required Microsoft permissions

The Outlook integration requires the following Microsoft Graph permissions:

These permissions are classified by Microsoft as high-privilege. Depending on your Azure AD policies, individual users may not be allowed to approve them.

When this restriction applies:

  • Self-consent is blocked by Microsoft

  • An admin approval request is generated automatically

  • Users see the “Your admin has been notified” message

What your Microsoft 365 / Azure admin needs to do

A Microsoft 365 or Azure administrator must approve consent for the Outlook integration if your organisation's policies prevent users from granting consent themselves.

Steps for your Azure admin

  • Log in to Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)

  • Go to Enterprise Applications

  • Locate the application used for the Outlook integration

  • Review and grant admin consent for the requested permissions

  • Save the changes

Once admin consent is granted

  • Users will no longer see the consent notification

  • Outlook can be connected successfully

  • No further action is required for other users in the same tenant

Please check with your Microsoft 365 / Azure administrator to ensure this step has been completed.

Before contacting Support

Please confirm the following:

  • An Azure / Microsoft 365 admin has approved consent

  • Consent was granted for the entire tenant

  • The approval was completed in Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD)
