Overview
Box+Dice allows you to import your own contact and property data into the web application using either a CSV spreadsheet or VCard file. Imports are completed directly from the Contact Search screen, giving you full control over the process.
Import contacts and properties
To import your data into Box+Dice:
- Go to: Contacts
- Click the More button
- Click Import
- Select if the file type is a CSV file or a vCard
- Select whether your CSV file includes column headers
- Tick Skip existing contacts to prevent duplicate records
- Tick Allow contact duplication if duplicates are required
- Select a Default Consultant
- Upload your CSV file and match your CSV column headings
- Click Continue
- To view a preview of a contact's import (without actually importing it) click on the eye icon next to the name
- If the data looks correct, click thee Import icon next to the eye to import a single contact
You can then check the imported contact to ensure the correct information has been recorded as required.
If the data looks correct:
- Leave Stop after one page ticked to import in batches, or
- Untick it to import all remaining contacts
Import additional information for existing contacts
When re‑importing the same file to add more data (such as categories):
Ensure all contacts are uniquely identifiable using:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Email or Mobile number
- Do NOT tick Skip existing contacts
This option prevents updates from being applied.
Note:
- Skipping existing contacts during an update import will result in no data being added.
- If you do not have access to import contacts please check your ACL for Importing Contacts.
Understand post‑import settings and troubleshooting
About marketing email and SMS permissions
If marketing permissions are not specified in your CSV file, all imported contacts will have marketing permissions enabled by default.
To disable marketing permissions:
- Populate the appropriate marketing permission field in your CSV file
Manage contact addresses correctly
Contacts can have addresses recorded as:
- Residential
- Postal
- Owner (for landlord contacts)
To ensure addresses are mapped correctly:
- Include separate columns for each address type
- Enter Y (Yes) or N (No) values in the relevant columns
What to do if you receive an error message
If you see a message indicating that some entries failed, this does not mean the entire impor
t failed.
For example:
- A contact record may already exist (and was skipped)
- But additional data (such as categories or notes) may have been added successfully
In this case, the import is considered partially successful, and no further action may be required.
