About Caller ID on iOS
Caller ID enables you to synchronize contacts from your Box and Dice database. This allows you to answer calls by addressing callers by their names, enhancing the interaction with a personalised touch, or look up the Contact in App to get an understanding of what their enquiry may relate to and then call them back.
Caller ID on iPhone is powered by Apple’s Call Directory framework. Apps like Box+Dice provide caller‑identification data, but iOS fully controls when and how that information appears.
Caller ID is a replacement for CardDav. It improves usability as you no longer need to apply the 'Mobile' Contact Category to a Contact in order for it to sync to your device - all Contacts are automatically synced once enabled.
Caller ID Changes in iOS 26
Apple’s iOS 26 update brings several changes to how incoming calls appear on your iPhone. These updates affect all apps that rely on Apple’s Caller ID framework.
Here’s what you may notice:
- New call‑screen layout - The Phone app and call‑handling screens look different, so Caller ID may appear in new places or with a different style
- Temporary delays after updating - Caller ID information may take 12–24 hours to update after installing iOS 26. During this time, names may not display consistently
- Call Screening affecting Caller ID - iOS 26 includes options that can screen or silence unknown callers. If these are turned on, the call may be screened before standard Caller ID appears
- Region or carrier differences - Some call‑handling features may vary depending on your device’s region or mobile provider
- Occasional interface issues - Some users have reported minor call display glitches in early iOS 26 versions. These are expected to be refined by Apple in future updates
Set Up Caller ID
To set up Caller ID:
- In the App, navigate to the Settings section
- Within the settings, locate and select B+D Caller ID
- Enable the required permissions
- Tap Caller ID: Disabled
This will open your iPhone settings. (Alternatively, you can open the Settings app and then select "Phone".)
- Scroll down and locate Call Blocking & Identification
- Toggle enable besides Box+Dice
- Return to the Agent App to confirm that Caller ID has been successfully enabled
The status should now show Caller ID: Enabled and syncing will begin. Your Box and Dice Contacts will be synced automatically with the App.
Troubleshoot iOS activation issues
If Caller ID activation stays on a spinning icon or the setup doesn’t complete, this usually means the iPhone has not fully registered the Caller ID extension yet. This can happen after iOS updates, permission changes, or if the system hasn’t finished refreshing its call‑related settings.
To troubleshoot iOS setup issues:
- Update iOS to the latest version
- Once updated, Uninstall Box+Dice
- Reboot your device
- Turn it off, wait 30+ seconds, then turn it on again
- Reinstall the Box+Dice App from the App Store
- Go to your phones Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification and turn Box+Dice on
