About Cloudflare setup for Grab websites

Cloudflare provides DNS management, security, and performance optimisation for websites. GRAB websites require Cloudflare to ensure stable hosting, reliable DNS routing, and protection from unwanted traffic. You can choose to let Box+Dice manage your Cloudflare configuration or manage it yourself if you need full administrative control.

Use the Box+Dice‑managed Cloudflare option

With this option, Box+Dice manages all Cloudflare configuration after you delegate your domain to their Cloudflare account. This is the simplest setup and requires minimal ongoing involvement.

To delegate your domain:

  • Log in to your current DNS provider’s console
  • Replace the existing nameserver (NS) records with:
    • mia.ns.cloudflare.com
    • Bruce.ns.cloudflare.com
  • Remove any additional NS records to prevent conflicts
Note: Instructions vary between DNS providers. Cloudflare provides guidance for common providers.
Prepare DNS details before delegating
  • You are not required to sign up and set up a Cloudflare account as this will be managed by Box+Dice
  • Ensure that you have only the 2 nameserver/NS records listed above for your DNS domain and delete any additional ones
  • Provide a DNS zone export in a bind file containing the DNS records before the name server changes
  • Review and record any MX records if you use an external email provider
  • Allow up to 72 hours for nameserver propagation
Provide details to Box+Dice

Once your changes are complete, send Box+Dice:

  • Domain names of your sites
  • The DNS zone export
  • MX records of your email provider (if you have an email provider)

Use the client‑managed Cloudflare option

With this option, you manage your Cloudflare account and all DNS configuration, while Box+Dice continues to host your GRAB website. This option is ideal if you run additional services such as email, enterprise DNS, or subdomains.

Create and configure your Cloudflare account

To enroll your domain onto Cloudflare:

  • Sign up for a Cloudflare account
  • Follow the Get Started with Cloudflare setup wizard
  • Allow Cloudflare to scan your existing DNS records
  • Confirm all DNS records from your previous provider are present
  • Click Continue
  • Important: Missing DNS records may disrupt email or other hosted services.
    • Enter your website’s domain without the preceding http:// or https:// (e.g. example.com) and then click Begin Scan
    • Add any records (e.g. MX records for email servers, A records) that you require
    • Select Pro and then click Continue
    • Make note of the nameservers provided and use these to change the nameservers to your current DNS provider

Upon completion, Cloudflare will provide an overview to show the status of the enrollment of the domain - which is most likely to be “Pending” at this point and an ETA upon which DNS nameserver changes will be complete. Please verify the status of the domain again in the time indicated.

Point your root domain to Grab hosting

This allows users who visit your domain without www to access your GRAB website.

    • Setup your root domain (e.g. example.com) to point to grab.boxdice.com.au
      • e.g. CNAME, example.com -> grab.boxdice.com.au

This permits your users or clients who type http://example.com (without the leading www.) in their browser to access your site hosted by Box+Dice.

    • Add a CNAME record for your domain’s root (i.e. domain name without the preceding www.) pointing at grab.boxdice.com.au

Upon completion, you should see an entry appear in the ‘DNS records’ table below the ‘Add Record’ row for your domain name.

    • Click on the gray cloud icon to enable DNS protection for this record

The icon changes to orange when protection is enabled.

Point your www host to your root domain

This ensures visitors using www reach the same site.

    • Setup your www host (e.g. www.example.com) to point to your domain root
      • e.g. CNAME, www.example.com -> example.com

This allows your users or clients who type http://www.example.com in their browser to view the same landing page at http://example.com.

    • Add a CNAME record for your www host (i.e. domain name with preceding www. - e.g. www.example.com) pointing at the root or your domain

Upon completion, you should see an entry appear in the ‘DNS records’ table below the ‘Add Record’ row for your domain name.

    •  Click on the grey cloud icon to enable DNS protection for this record
    Test your DNS and website
    • Check DNS propagation
    • Point your browser to your website e.g. http://example.com and verify it is functioning
    • Test DNS changes are effective and that Cloudflare is protecting your domain, you can use one of the following services: Your domain root/apex and www host
