Set up Google maps API key for GRAB websites

Prepare your Google account

Before you create a Google Maps API key, ensure that you have the following:

Requirements

• A working Google account
• A valid credit card (required by Google to activate Maps services)

To set up your Google account:  

• Log in to your Google account or create a new account

Create your Google maps API key

To create the API key:

• Go to: Google Maps Platform
• Click Get started
• Create a billing account
• Agree to Google’s terms and click Continue
• Enter your billing details and click Start my free trial
• Open the navigation menu (☰) and select APIs & Services
• Click Credentials
• Click + Create project

• Enter a clear name e.g. "grab maps boxdice", then click Create
• Click + Create Credentials > API key

• Copy the API key and save it — you will need to email this to Box+Dice Support

Your new API key is now created but must be restricted for security.

Restrict your API key

Restricting the key ensures your Google Maps API can only be used on your authorised domains.

To apply restrictions:

• Click Restrict Key in the popup.
• If the popup is closed, click the pencil icon next to the key
• Under Application restrictions, select HTTP referrers (web sites)

• Under Website restrictions, click Add an item
• Add your required URLs in this exact format:
  • Your Box+Dice URL - example.boxdice.com.au/*
  • Your live website URL -  exampleproperties.com.au/*
  • Wildcard version of your website URL - *.exampleproperties.com.au/*

• Click Save

Once completed, email the copied API key to the Box+Dice Support Team CS.BoxDice@mrisoftware.com so it can be connected to your GRAB website.
