Summary

Learn how to copy the contents of a library template into a new template when you need to change the template's folder or context.

This article covers:

Overview

When you use the Copy option on a library template, the duplicate is created in the same folder and template context as the original template.

If you need the template to belong to a different folder or context, you'll need to create a new template and manually copy the template content using the source code.

Using source code ensures all formatting, fields, and template settings are copied correctly.

Copy the source code from the existing template

To copy the source code safely:

  • Go to: Settings > Library Templates
  • Open the template you want to copy
  • Click the template name and the blue pen (Edit) icon
  • Select the Source Code icon

  • Copy the entire source code

Note: Copying visible content only may cause the new template to appear blank.

Paste the source code into a new template

Add the copied source code to the new file:

  • Return to Settings > Library Templates
  • Click +Add New

  • Click the Source Code icon
  • Paste the copied source code

  • Click Save & Close to save the template
Tip: Always paste directly into Source Code view, not the visual editor.
