About property categories
Property categories in Box+Dice are used to classify properties and ensure listings align with how web portals display and group property types.
Categories shown on the Property Information screen are hard coded to match the categories supported by portals such as realestate.com.au and domain.com.au. This ensures consistency and correct portal mapping.
If a specific property category is not available in the standard category drop‑down, you cannot edit or add it directly to the main category list.
- Standard property categories are not editable
- New categories must be added as an Other Property Category
- This allows you to select Other and then choose the custom category
Add a property category
Follow the steps below to add a new Other Property Category.
- Go to: Settings > Properties > Other Property Categories
- Click Add other property category
- Enter the name of the property category into the Name field
- Click Save
Select the category on the property record
Once the category has been added, it can be selected from the property record.
- Open the property record
- Click Edit
- Select the Property Type to Residential
- Choose Other
- Select the custom category from the Other Property Category drop‑down
- Click Save
